IRWD’s Biosolids and Energy Recovery Facility was honored with a Project of the Year Award from the California Association of Sanitation Agencies. This state-of-the-art facility adds a second layer to the sewage treatment process, converting the solids left over from the water recycling process into a valuable resource that can be used as fertilizer or fuel. But it doesn’t don’t stop there. It plant also harnesses the biogas produced from the process and uses it to generate electricity to power the facility.
